Archaeologist -  Field Director

All of our Archer CRM offices have positions available for full time/seasonal Archaeological Field Directors (as per Bulletin 17).  Our team is progressive, innovative, and seeks to contribute to the understanding of BC's long and rich history. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people like you to conduct and manage exciting field projects and participate in research opportunities. 

Job description         

Primary Responsibility: to conduct  and lead archaeological field work meeting  ARCHER CRM Partnership  and stakeholder standards, including but not limited to:

  • Archaeological field assessments in a supervisory capacity;
  • Adhere to  ARCHER CRM Partnership OH&S and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Provide direction to archaeological assistants;
  • Co-ordinate effectively with Crew Chief(s);
  • Co-ordinate with Project Lead(s) to satisfy client needs;
  • On an as-needed basis, assist Project Director(s) with project co-ordination;
  • Will involve frequent travel to other  ARCHER CRM Partnership offices & jobsites.

 Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver Licence;
  • Safe operation of vehicles, ATV, snowmobiles, and other devices;
  • Available to work away from home office for up to 14 days at a time;
  • Be a Branch-approved field director for one or more regions in BC;
  • Must provide an up-to-date ‘experience summary spreadsheet’ as per Archaeology Branch Bulletin 17 (available  here);
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology/Anthropology/Earth Sciences;
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, recording, documenting and suggesting to a supervisor management recommendations for found archaeological remains, including features;
  • Eligible to work in Canada under a presently valid work visa .

 Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:

  • That at least one reference provided be an individual who can comment directly on the applicant’s supervisory time;
  •  meet the qualifications for applying for Permit Holder status but have not applied for such yet;
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment, co-ordinating with Crew Chief(s) if present and taking direction from Project Leads, the Regional Manager, and/or Directors;
  • Be a Canadian citizen.

Preference give to those with the following Certifications:

  • First Aid Level 1 & Transportation Endorsement;
  • H2S,  TDG;
  • ATV Rider Safety  and Snow Pro;
  • Wildlife Awareness.

Remuneration:

  • Wage commensurate with demonstrated experience;
  • Benefits package available to qualifying employees.
