Archaeologist - Supervisor  -  Field Director Stream

Our Burnaby and Fort St John offices have positions available  immediately for full time  Archaeologists and our Prince George and Vanderhoof Offices will have seasonal positions available in the Spring for Archaeologists who  are on track to becoming a Field Director (as per Bulletin 17).  Our team is progressive, innovative, and seeks to contribute to the understanding of BC's long and rich history. 

Job description         

Primary Responsibility: to conduct and supervise archaeological field work meeting ARCHER and stakeholder standards, including but not limited to:

  • Active participation in archaeological field assessments in supervisory capacity;
  • Adhering to ARCHER CRM Partnership’s OH&S and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Provide direction to archaeological assistants;
  • Co-ordinate with Project Lead  to satisfy client needs;
  • Will involve frequent travel to other  ARCHER CRM Partnership offices  and jobsites.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver Licence;
  • Available to work away from home office at remote job sites and offices;
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology/Anthropology/Earth Sciences;
  • Has at least 360 days of consulting  field experience in BC under permit.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, recording, documenting and suggesting to a supervisor management recommendations for found archaeological remains, including features;
  • Provide an up-to-date ‘experience summary spreadsheet’ as per Archaeology Branch Bulletin 17 (available here) if possible;
  • Eligible to work in Canada under a presently valid work visa.

Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance  and in a team environment;
  • Basic understanding of lithic technology, GPS terminology  and mapping techniques;
  • Safe operation of vehicles, ATV, snowmobiles, and other devices;
  • That at least one reference provided be an individual who can comment directly on the applicant’s supervisory time;
  • Be a Canadian citizen.

Preference give to those with the following Certifications:

  • First Aid Level 1  and Transportation Endorsement;
  • H2S,  TDG;
  • ATV Rider Safety and Snow Pro;
  • Wildlife Awareness.

Remuneration:

  • Wage commensurate with demonstrated experience;
  • Benefits package available to qualifying employees.
