Field Technician

Our Fort St John office has positions available for full time seasonal Field Technicians to ensure the safety of archaeological field crews  and assist with the co-ordination of archaeological field work.

Job description           

Primary Responsibility: to assist an Archaeological Field Director in conducting archaeological field work, including but not limited to:

  • Active participation in archaeological field assessments;
  • Adhering to ARCHER’s OH&S and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Upon demonstrated ability, assist Field Director(s) with any/all fieldwork tasks and responsibilities;
  • May involve frequent travel to other ARCHER offices and jobsites.

 Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate;
  • Multitasking capabilities;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment;
  • Safe operation of vehicles, ATV, snowmobiles, and other devices.

 Requirements:

  • High School Diploma;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver Licence (unrestricted) or equivalent;
  • Canadian Citizen;
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience (with a proven and positive track record) of field-based (outdoors) survey-style work;
  • Knowledge and practical experience with all-terrain vehicles (or equivalent), chainsaws (or equivalent) and off-pavement 4-wheel drive vehicle operation is a must;
  • Must be able and qualified to use some or all equipment required to perform field work including 4X4 trucks, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and other motorized off-road equipment;
  • Must be able to use tools such as GPS equipment, photographic equipment, communication devices, cement saws, augers and other mechanized equipment;
  • Must be familiar and comfortable with working around heavy machinery;
  • Must be able to identify safety precautions in compliance with the Company’s Safety Management System;
  • Consistent availability to work away from home office at remote jobsites and offices.

 Preferred Certifications:

  • First Aid Level 1 and Transportation Endorsement;
  • Valid H2S, TDG;
  • ATV Rider Safety and Snow Pro (preferred);
  • Wildlife Awareness.

Remuneration:

  • Wage commensurate with demonstrated experience;
